Pupils at St Mary’s Primary School in Broadway got to use their loaf during a week-long bread project with local baker’s La Parisienne and their local Warner’s Budgens.
During the week of Monday 24th May, pupils visited the La Parisienne bakery to learn how to make bread, then visited our store to see how it is marketed, packaged and advertised. Pupils then had a turn at inventing a type of bread, making it and designing packaging for it.
We devised the bread project, now in its third year, to help pupils understand about commerce as well as how food is brought to the table. Written by the our educational Advisor, Suzie Jordan, it works with the national curriculum to bring a hands-on element of fun to the classroom. It is certainly popular with both pupils and staff and has been rolled out to schools in neighbouring Moreton-in-Marsh and Bidford-on-Avon where there are also Warner’s Budgens stores.
